Description
Part of the LEAVES TO TEA range, which approaches tea without the ceremony — equipment that suits how people actually drink it now, rather than a set that lives in a cupboard.
Hasami porcelain
Made in Hasami, a pottery town in Nagasaki Prefecture with roughly four centuries of production behind it. The white has a faint blue cast and a slight translucency when held up, which is what separates good porcelain from ordinary white ceramic, and it is why a very plain shape still looks considered.
The size
160 ml is a tasting-sized cup by Western standards and a normal one by Japanese ones. It suits green and oolong teas, which are usually brewed in several short infusions rather than one long mug, and it keeps each pour hot enough to taste properly.
